Energy-infrastructure map

Every utility-scale power plant in the world, on one map. Filter by fuel or minimum capacity, search for a plant by name, or click a dot for its installed capacity, fuel and commissioning year — with a link and a one-line citation for that exact plant. No JavaScript needed either: the 50 largest plants in the dataset are listed in a plain table below the map.

Loading the interactive map… if it does not appear, the table below (no JavaScript needed) still lists the 50 largest plants.

The 50 largest plants in this dataset

Rendered without JavaScript, from the same data the interactive map above uses, out of 10,701 plants worldwide of 50 MW or more. Open the map for the full, filterable set.

The data

10,701 plants of 50 MW or more, from the World Resources Institute’s Global Power Plant Database v1.3.0 (CC BY 4.0) — every coordinate and capacity figure exactly as published, nothing estimated or interpolated. Country outlines are Natural Earth’s 1:110m admin-0 boundaries (public domain). Both are fetched once and checked into this site’s build, not queried live, so the map works without a tile server, a map-provider key or a third-party script.
