Intelligence

What the intelligence dashboard answers.

Five questions a data-centre board asks about Europe, each with its headline answer from today’s ScienceShot dataset. The dashboard holds the detail behind every one.

  • 467data-centre projects in the pipeline
  • 35operators and developers
  • 31market pages
  • 17markets in the grid connection tracker

01

Where is new capacity being built, and how far along is it?

467 data-centre projects of 5 MW or more in 24 countries. 201 are permitted or being built, 109 of them already on site.

Projects by stage, Europe

467 projects

  • 266Announced or in planning
  • 92Permitted or contractor appointed
  • 109Under construction or structure complete

Projects are counted, never their megawatts: each states capacity on its own basis. The dashboard breaks this down by country, market, operator and milestone.

02

Where can a new site still get a grid connection?

New connections are paused in all or part of 2 of the 17 countries we track and rationed in 5. Only 4 have no pause, cap or condition on them.

New connections for large loads

17 countries

  • 2Paused
  • 5Rationed
  • 2Congested
  • 4Conditional
  • 4No pause or cap

A country counts as paused or rationed when the rule covers all or part of its grid. The dashboard names the rule, the area it covers and when it changes.

03

How do the markets compare on the numbers that decide a site?

31 markets compared on up to six measures: projects, how many are permitted or being built, the rule on new grid connections, power price, grid carbon and latency to the nearest major hub.

04

Who is building, and where?

35 operators and developers with three or more projects in the pipeline, 25 of them in more than one country.

What does power cost and emit right now?

Across 15 European grids this hour, Norway (NO2) is the cleanest at 24 g CO2e/kWh against 687 g in Poland. Power is cheapest in Finland, at 51 EUR/MWh.
